Extra Precautions This Week at Hawthorne

Recently a horse was diagnosed with strangles that was stabled at the Sawgrass Training Center in Illinois. That horse has not been to Hawthorne in over a month. Accordingly, Hawthorne has sent out this announcement through text message. “All trainers must check their horses’ rectal temp twice daily, preferably morning and evening. A written log must be submitted to security when the horse is checked in on race day. Temps 1.5 degrees above normal (99.5-100.5) will be scratched.”  Horses that do ship in from Sawgrass to Hawthorne to race this weekend will all ship into the same isolated barn. Horsemen are asked to be extremely attentive to this situation and be considerate of  each other. We will update any information as it becomes available.
